releasing the button output switches off - meaning

Hello everybody!

In mono-stable mode output is active for all the time the corresponding push button is pressed in the keyfob, releasing the button output switches off.

In my opinion, the sentence "releasing the button output switches off" means "releasing the button switches the output off" or "releasing the button causes output to be switched off" and releasing is an gerund structure. I am not much of an electrician. Thank you.

The preceding context is as follows:

Every output of RX-4MHCS is driven by a transistor in open collector configuration, able to bear max current of 100 mA. In stand-by mode transistor is cut off while when triggered is in saturation region. Output can be programmed to work in mono-stable or bi-stable mode, every one independent from the others.

The text after the sentence in question is as follows:

In bi-stable mode output switches its state every time the corresponding push button is pressed in the keyfob (from active to inactive and vice versa).​

Your interpretation of the meaning is correct, but "releasing the button output switches off" is not a "gerund structure." The whole thing "In mono-stable mode output is active for all the time the corresponding push button is pressed in the keyfob, releasing the button output switches off" is an incorrect, ungrammatical run-on sentence, obviously written by a non-fluent user of English. Here it is rewritten as two correct sentences:

In mono-stable mode, output is active for the whole time the corresponding push button is pressed in the key fob. Releasing the button switches off the output.

If it is meant to be present participle, I would write it as follows:
In mono-stable mode output is active for all the time the corresponding push button is pressed in the keyfob, switching it (output) off by releasing the button.

"Switching it off" would be present participle whereas "releasing the button" would be a gerund form.
What do you think?

Horsefeathers. That's what I think. It is still a run-on sentence, and therefore incorrect. I have already given you a correct version.
