At the begining of Planet Earth II, a famous documentary, meaning of ''lengths'' has confused me.

the whole sentence:

At this crucial time for the natural world, we will journey all the corner of the globe to explore the greatest treasures of our living planet and reveal the extreme lengths animals go to to survive.

I am not sure what is the meaning of bold part of this sentence.

So, what is it mean?

Thanks for your help.

It's a sort of metaphorical distance. It usually denotes an extreme effort or the fact that someone/something has to do something extraordinary in order to achieve something. In your context, the writer plans to show that some animals have to take extraordinary actions in order to survive.

Here are some examples of it in use (BrE):

I once flew to Berlin and back the next day to see a Duran Duran concert. I will go to any lengths to see them live.
You paid £100,000 for a painting by Ronaldo? Wow! The lengths some people will go to for some kind of celebrity connection!
The man painted his whole house yellow and pink to try to win over the lady next door, because it was her favourite colour. He really will go to extreme lengths for love!

Thank you very much. Now I understand it exactly. It makes sense. I do not need to go to extreme lengths to understand its meaning thanks to your help.
