What I want to express is:

This design (or layout) _________ (be proper, be appropriate) that function.

So I made a sentence like:
This design is proper to that function.
This design is appropriate to that function.

I have no idea are there any grammar problem in those above, I even suspected those two words "proper" and "appropriate" was used rightly.

So would you please teach me a word which can be rightly fill in that blank?
Also the adjective is not my favor to use, I'd like a verb to fill in usually, if you are a English teacher, could you also give a verb? Could you see what I mean?

NOT A TEACHER.

You could say, "The design fits/suits that function."
