Should I use brackets or semicolon?

1. The president announced, "The Homecoming Queen Miss Anna van Horn will be president at all the activities."

my answer: "The Homecoming Queen (comma) bracket..Miss Anna van Horn Bracket...will be present at all activities.

2. Be sure you understand all the rules of the game ( see page 14) of the guidebook.
answer: parentheses is placed around the page correctly.

Next question:
Are theses punctuated correctly?

1 .I read for an hour and then i went to bed.

2. Because of his fear of the water, he refused to go swimming.

3. I have brought my textbook, my notebook and several pencils.

4. The word psychology begins with a p, not a s.

5. The man sitting in the last seat, is my brother.

6. To do satisfactory work, is my aim.
(In this sentence should there be a semicolon used?)

Thanks

I would use commas there:

1. The Homecoming Queen, Miss Anna van Horn, will be president at all the activities.

but I guess that brackets could also be used:

1. The Homecoming Queen (Miss Anna van Horn) will be president at all the activities.

;-)

1 .I read for an hour and then i went to bed. <- yes (except you need to capitalise the personal pronoun "I")

2. Because of his fear of the water, he refused to go swimming. <- yes

3. I have brought my textbook, my notebook and several pencils. <- yes

4. The word psychology begins with a p, not a s. <- yes

5. The man sitting in the last seat, is my brother. <- no (I would remove the comma)

6. To do satisfactory work, is my aim. <- no (again I would remove the comma)

I agree with Red, but it should be 'an s' in number 4
