Adapt means to undergo some change to fit the circumstances. Think of living things that adapt to their environment.
Adopt means to choose something and follow it. You can adopt someone's ideas expressed in his suggestion.

If you say toilet you are only referring to one toilet, for example women toilet?...

But if I say toilets it means all the toilet facilities or no??
