please help me understand these two sentences, thanks!
1, It wasn't a speech so much as an outpouring.
2, Annie felt that she was being pushed aside in favor of a younger member of staff.

and also I don't quite understand 'in favor of' from the second sentence.

#1 The person making the speech became emotional in speaking, and poured out his/her emotions.

#2 Annie feels that a younger member of staff is being preferred to her in the office and that as a result she is not receiving promotion or being recognized .
