Separaring sylables

I've seen different ways of separating sylables when a word comes at the end of a written line. I'd like some clues about doing that correctly.

Are you asking about hyphenation? Almost everyone marks sylable seperation with a / (as in raz/or.)

There are various rules for where you can put hyphens - obviously not where it changes the meaning, as in *"leg-end" or *"the-rapist", nor in the middle of a monosyllable formed by two written vowels - *"po-ur". The rules are a matter of house style. The ones I use (OUP's) are diffferent from the ones imposed by Microsoft Word, for example. Do a Google search for "hyphenation rules", pick a set, and stick to them.
