Hello.

I have this sentence: “It was now his turn to feel very glad, because when they got there, he would see his wife again.”

Is it possible to use another tense of the verb “get”? (e.g. had got?)

Thank you for your help.

Where did you find that sentence?

I can't think of another tense that would work.

Let's wait for the OP to answer post #2 before we speculate further.

Pavel H, always tell us the source and author of any text you quote, please.

It is my sentence, inspired by A. A. Milne. (What´s wrong with it?) The important thing is the verb form.

He said: “When I get there I will call you.”
He said that when he got there he would call me.

Is it correct? Thanks.

I agree with the answer given by GoesStation in post #3.
