"emerge" is a verb that means "to appear up out of"

So, after the divorce, she appeared up out of the entire (hurtful, messy, sad) situation as a stronger person.

That is shortened to "emerged a stronger person."


Supposed a ship got caught in a storm at sea. The waves were very high and all the crew thought it was going to sink. Still is survived! We would say:

The ship emerged still seaworthy.
