Which of the following adverb phrases is acceptable?

1. Since then, rats have always wanted to trick cats.
2. From then on, rats have always wanted to trick cats.
3. By then on, rats have always wanted to trick cats.
4. By that time, rats have always wanted to trick cats.

Which of the following adverb phrases is acceptable?

1. Since then, rats have always wanted to trick cats. Yes.
2. From then on, rats have always wanted to trick cats. Yes, but it would be usual to delete the "have".
3. By then on, rats have always wanted to trick cats. No.
4. By that time, rats have always wanted to trick cats. No.


For 4. you could say "Since that time, cats have...."
