In the sentence Since compared to my new job, I hardly saw anybody else while I was on duty.it seems to me that the conjunction "since" is not needed. If it is, what does "since" mean here?

B: Compared to my last one, it’s a lot more interesting.
A: What was your last job?
B: I was a night security guard.
A: That sounds interesting.
B: Not really, since compared to my new job, I hardly saw anybody else while I was on duty.
