Single Space Between Ending Double & Single Quotes?

One or two below preferred in terms of styling? Space or no space between the single and double ending quote marks?

1. "Mike said, 'Be careful what you wish for.' "

Or

2. "Mike said, 'Be careful what you wish for.'"
