Long time no see. Nice to see all of you guys still be here.
I've taken a tour to other place ready for my visa things.
Now all that I have to do is only awaiting--- for the pass of my visa, for the change of my life.

Hmm, frankly I got some questions to want to ask you guys------ whether are you american or western people able to discuss or refute the policies which your government have drawn? Is it at will?

Tonight my account in one of China forums is deleted bya moderator there because I fighted back to what they talked on the topic of the election of Taiwan. I'm confused that it's no big deal when they made fun of taiwanese's election but when it comes to the opposite that I picked on their negative sides, things have become very different. The result is I was kicked out. :(

Btw, who do you guys support more between Bush or Kerr? Now Bush really got a rush time especially with the crash happened in Spain, right?

And I would have decided to make a progress in my english before came back, but I've failed to study hard in my idle time, so i feel a little ashamed that my English is as usual now  . Don't mind it, please.

We are quite free in the Western world to criticize and disgree with the policies of our governments. That doesn't mean that individuals will not get upset if they disagree with what you say. It just means that you are protected from government action.

We tend to discourage political discussions on our forums. The reason is that such discussions often turn into anger and hard feelings. We like to keep the subjects related to language.

Otherwise, we have: :2gunfire:

My dear Chinese friend, please act prudently in China. A small mistake can end you up behind bars. The paramount constitutional law in China to control its people is SUBVERSION OF THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT. Even in some Hong Kong political forum, quite often, my postings are deleted by webmasters. I have to point out that it appears that most of the users here are not interested in Chinese politics.

I do agree with you on the points on the main purpose of this forum, however sometimes we bend rules in life.

I strongly agree with Mike NY in this respect. Not that we don't want to or not aware of what's happening in the world. Just to avoid that what Mike NY mentioned above.

Indeed. We sometimes bend the rules here also. Let's just try to stay in bounds.

I am moving this thread to the members forum so it's not found by Google or Chinese officials.

We wouldn't want our site on their block list now would we? ;-)

Hey! What's up? I was wondering what had happened to you. :)

You've taken a tour somewhere--somewhere outside of China? And now you are waiting for your visa and whatever comes with that?

You are looking forward to a big change in your life?

I don't know much about visas and passports or whatever. What do you have to go through to get a visa?

  • Frankly, I have some questions I want to ask you guys. Are you American or Western people able to discuss--especially, disagree with--the policies of your government?

As Mike said, Americans can and frequently do disagree with government policy.

I don't understand why it's no big deal when they make fun of Taiwan's election, but when I take the opposite point of view their attitude changed and they became unfriendly. The result is I was kicked out. :(

I don't think so. If anything, those attacks in Spain hurt Kerry. It made in plain that this is a dangerous world and that we need somebody who is strong on defense.

Waving the white flag of surrender will not appease the terrorists. It will only encourage them.

You're doing fine. At least I can understand what you are saying. (I think.)

As you can see, I have "translated" some of your comments to idiomatic English. Please tell me if any of my interpretations are inaccurate.

:)

Welcome back.

No, we wouldn't. I hope you don't mind letting Eric and others vent here once in a while. As HongKongChinese pointed out, they don't feel so free to do so in their home country.

We have plenty of political forums where people can say whatever they want. Unfortunately, the Chinese (especially on the mainland) do not have that.

:(

Nope, I don't mind at all, as long as they are restricted to the General Members Discussions folder. That folder is only visible to forum members and will not appear in the search engines. ;-)

I didn't know that about the search engines. I learn something new (almost) every day.

Sir Mike, are you a new guy? Nice to meet you.
I agree with your point that i should not talk about other things too much, but like Sir Ron said, I am really really unable to do so in my country. And frankly,I'm so curious about the custom, especially issues of politics and societies, of western world that I can't control my mouth often. And do you think if we only talk about language itself, it would become kina boring? So forgive me, please.

Dear Hong Kong buddy, many thanks for your words. Sometimes I can't help express my ideas to fight with others, particularly with those who support communism. And I've known the recent inciddent happened in HongKong that Mr. Li has been named a traitor. I guess Hong Kong will become the same as Mainland little by little. You will no longer enjoy democratic rights in the future. And, seems like some of them have to be on Beijing government's side, right?
Sigh, now I only care about the fate of Taiwan, the only and last environment for Chinese to get democracy.

Btw, what means "bend rules in life"? so shy, seemed your Hongkongnese are really good at English.

Webmaster Red, you're very kind.

Sir Ron, my dear English teacher, you're great. You're always being so friendly and generous for your students. Could I know what's your routine occupation now? Hmm, is it offensive?
To be frank, I feel curious toward your culture and custom more than your language. As far as I'm concerned, language is the most convenient tool for communication and opening my mind.

For your information, Sir, thanks for you correction. You've helped me a lot and you'll become a part of the change of my life.

Why did I care about going overseas so much? Coz studying overseas can be very difficult and paramount for most of common Chinese. You know our education level and poor living condition. So I borrowed a large amount of money and went throung over 1 year to be trained in English, to attend that Ielts exam and to be ready for application of Visa.

Visa is not a big deal for yours because you're more like a league with western world. However, Chinese have to experience a long term and strict process of being examined. There is possible that my Visa is gonna be rejected even if I've reached the last step.

So hope God can bless me either.

As for a terrorism, China media won't report positive news of yours most of time. Frankly, there are a good many people who support Ben Lartin?? in China, the only reason is that Ben Lartin attacked yours. sigh, sympathetic brainwashed guys. In fact, Chinese envy American's leading postion in the world as well as your rich livings.

I'm glad to be back too. Please teach me more about foreign world. Thanks.

We had a vote in our other forum (some time ago) about what a person from Hong Kong would/should be described in English. Currently the results suggest the following:

They are Hong Kongese 3 votes (13%)
They are a Hong Konger 4 votes (17%)
Something else... 16 votes (70%)

Would you all agree with this?

:-D

  • Hong Kong , Mandarin Xianggang, special administrative region of China, formerly a British crown colony (1997 est. pop. 6,300,000), land area 422 sq mi (1,092 sq km), adjacent to Guangdong prov., SE China, on the estuary of the Pearl River, 40 mi (64 km) E of Macao and 90 mi (145 km) SE of Guangzhou (Canton). The region comprises Hong Kong island, ceded by China in 1842 under the Treaty of Nanjing; Kowloon (Mandarin Jiulong) peninsula, ceded (with Stonecutters Island) in 1860 under the Beijing Convention; and the New Territories, a mountainous mainland area adjoining Kowloon, which, with Deep Bay on the west and Mirs Bay on the east and some 235 offshore islands, was leased from China in 1898 for 99 years. China regained sovereignty of the colony on July 1, 1997. The capital, officially named Victoria but commonly called Hong Kong, is on the northwest shore of Hong Kong island.

It is perhaps overstating it to say I do nothing. I do sit at the computer a lot. I'm sure you have more of a "real life" than I do. :(

Surely you don't want to study overseas because it is difficult. What about studying overseas makes it something you want to do?

Actually, I don't know much about the living conditions in China. I do know that the standard of living in China is not as high as it is in the USA or in Western European countries. On the other hand, there are plenty of countries that are poorer than China. (One of them is right next door: North Korea.)

What do they make you go through to get a visa? Please enlighten me.

:)

I'm not sure what that first sentence means, especially the last part. :?

It takes a long time to get a visa, and you might go through all the necessary steps and at the end be rejected. Right?

Do you have to specify a destination when applying for a visa?

As for a terrorism, China media won't report positive news of yours most of time. If they want to emulate us there is, of course, nothing wrong with that. However, if they advocate destruction that is not so laudable. :(

Do you know that Bin Laden considers most Chinese infidels?
