OK, I will stop.

We all very much appreciate your help with this.

I don't want to be dictatorial. In fact, I hate it.

I'll explain a little bit about our position on this subject in the hope that everyone will understand better why we have taken this stand.

First and foremost this is a forum to help people learn English. Of course members will end up chatting about other topics, but there are limits as to what is acceptable.

I judge what is acceptable using the possible effects on other forum members as a guide. Given we are a forum that will attract many people from all over the world, the risks of talking about politics and/or religion are serious.

My aim here is to make this forum a nice place for anyone to come and learn here. Our members are friendly and always helpful and happy.

If we allowed people to talk about politics and religion, the risk is that some might get offended and leave. In addition, new members might read old discussions and get a bad impression of what this forum is about.

I don't want that.

I want the forum to stick to language topics and general chat because it is safe. I want everyone to feel as if they can come here, regardless of their religion or political stance, and feel as if they can make friends here and get help.

I hope I'm making sense here, and I hope I'm able to get my view over without adding to the confusion.

Kind regards,

E

Sigh, different people have differenct opinions.
I only wonder who chinese hate us to talk about it.
I have no intention to revenge it or else. Just confused who were disturbed by us.
A puzzle forever?

There was quite a lot going on at the time- we also were having other areas that were being affected. We were just trying to keep things on an even keel.

;-)

I've been a big troublemaker for you guys, right?

Not at all. Your posts are stimulating and provocative. Some would argue that at times your posts have been a little too provocative. Nevertheless, you have been a valuable member of this forum. You have enriched it with your many interesting posts.

Don't stay away so long next time.

:)

Sneer, dear Ron, I figure only you think so.
I wonder whether you would hate or dislike somebody?

You think perhaps I am the only one who thinks you have been a valuable member of the forum? I don't believe that is the case. I am sure others feel the same way.

It's basically not in me to be hateful. Why do you ask?

Because you've been too nice and kind to others.
That's really really appreciated.

We had a vote in our other forum (some time ago) about what a person from Hong Kong would/should be described in English. Currently the results suggest the following:

They are Hong Kongese 3 votes (13%)
They are a Hong Konger 4 votes (17%)
Something else... 16 votes (70%)

Would you all agree with this?

:-D

I would say:

I'm a Chinese from Hong Kong.
