Hello everyone
I'd like to ask what the phrase "sit back against" imply in the following sentence.

Jopale sighed and sat back against the warm pink wall.

It's the first time the author has mentioned this person. Does "sat back against" imply that he was already sitting and just relaxed, or does the phrase imply that before that he was standing and then sat?

Hello K.,

For me, it implies that while seated, he moved his back closer to the wall and leaned against the wall.

Best wishes,

MrP
