slow vs slowly

I have heard a native english speaking guy saying: reports are coming in slow to our office. why didn't he say that reports are coming in slowly to our office?

I would use "slowly", but "slow" has apparently been used as an adverb with some verbs for a long time. My dictionary recognizes "slow" as an adverb and notes that "slow" as an adverb regularly follows the verb it modifies.
It also notes that some people think it is best not to use "slow" as an adverb.
