Maybe he's just made changes directly onto the quote and is not making any comment?

Since the subject of this thread is "living it up", and a central question is the role money plays in living it up, let me tell you how I plan to live it up on new year's eve:

I'll make myself a hot chocolate, and listen to Lawrence Welk records in my underwear.
When you get to a certain age, that's living it up.

happy new year

Angli,

Please explain your statement: 'If riverkid doesn't type anything in his post, he can't submit his post.'

If riverkid doesn't type anything, why would he want to submit a post? I don't understand the logic of the statement!

I have to agree with vil that "live it up" does imply spending money recklessly, something that is always relative to one's income, of course. I have often heard this expression used ironically, that is, to describe food or entertainment that is decidedly not luxurious. Like Edward's example (although hot chocolate in comfortable surroundings is about as good as it gets, if you ask me).

[mother of twins] "Yes, we're going to celebrate my birthday with a trip to Wal-Mart, the dry cleaners, and then...McDonald's!"

[childless friend] "Ooh, be sure to order an extra-large order of fries. Go on, live it up."

--Del, who is now considering sacrificing the single packet of Ghirardelli White Chocolate Mocha mix that came with a Christmas present and which she was saving for a special treat

Hi Delmobile,

Thank you for your understanding.

Your last examples sound very plausible and realistically. I take your point concerning the present theme and back up your reasoning at all.

Happy New Year.

Happy New Year to all of you my co-workers.

Regards.

V.
