[Grammar] Some weird things have been happening

Are the following sentences grammatically correct?

"Some weird things have been happening to me recently and I prefer to be precautious."

Just use "cautious."

'Precautious' does exist, but is very rarely used - probably because (in my dialect at least) it sounds exactly like precocious, which has a very different meaning.

If it existed, "precautious" wouldn't sound like "precocious" in my dialect. I guess someone somewhere may have used the word "precautious", but today is the first time I've ever seen it.

You could change your sentence slightly and say "...and I prefer to take precautions."
