2. someone said "it's like the mondith in 2001"

i've googled mondith 2001, and found nothing. what does it refer to?

1 'give' = give way/buckle/break under stress

2 typo - try googling 'It's like the monolith in 2001'

"Something had to give" (or "has to give") refers to a current situation that is untenable. Forces are trying to change the situation and very soon one or the forces will win and the losing side will "have to give."

Or think of over-loading a bridge with more weight than it was designed for. Something will give and the situation will change, rapidly.
