The parts of speech are: noun, pronoun, verb, adverb, preposition, adjective, conjunction, interjection, and the article-definite or indefinite.

That's 9. The article is some times considered a part of speech. Why some times? I'm not sure. Maybe one of the other forum teachers or experts can say why.
