spread or spreading

we stop and marvel at the view of farms and fields spread before us.

is "spread" correct in the sentence?
or should i use "spreading"?

spread before us is OK and refers to the location of the farms of fields: They are spread out before us, whereas spreading before us , which is also OK, refers to what the farms and fields are doing: They are spreading outward before us, which sounds very poetic and rather nice. :D
