From American Heritge Dictionary:

Greek kaiein, to burn. Caustic and Holocaust have the same root. Caustic - adj., marked by sharp and bitter wit; cutting.

Thanks, I get to know one new word.

The stem caus- is from the noun cause, which comes from Latin causa "a cause, reason, judicial process, lawsuit."

Words with the stem caus-: causal, causality, causation, causative

The suffix -tic comes from French -tique and Latin -ticus.

Words with the suffix -tic: sarcastic, mystic, plastic, therapuetic
