I am wondering if my sentences are grammatically correct.

Steve parents tried in vain to dissuade him to go out with a gang of local thugs. They told him nothing good would come out of it. He would remember their words first a few months later when the police arrested him for selling drugs.

Consider using, e.g., "hanging out" instead of "going out" in the above.
