It's code for the software which runs this forum. It's supposed to use a font that makes the letters appear like they have a line through them, like someone crossed them out.

I have gone back to that thread and fixed mine. Something has happened to the toolbar and the "strikethrough" option has vanished on the basic editing tool, so I have been putting the code in manually but I made a typo. I have edited billmcd's post too - he had made a similar typo.

It's meant to be talking to the software and not displayed, but if you hit the wrong key, it will be displayed.
