Which is correct:
- "such music is awful" or "such a music is awful"
-"such equipment is very expensive" or "such an equipment is very expensive"
-"such machinery is very bad" or "such a machinery is very bad".

As Corum said, no indefinite article is required. In this context, music, equipment and machinery are used like collective nouns.

If it helps, change "such" to "This type/kind/sort of..." and you may see that simply using the noun on its own makes sense.


In order to use the indefinite article, you would have to say:

Such a piece of music is awful.
Such a piece of equipment/kit is very expensive.
Such a piece/bit of machinery is very bad.
