Thanks for the point. Actually, I was about to use this in an essay about whether or not all the leisure activities children are involved in should be educational. Naturally I was looking for some synonyms to avoid repetition.

There might be a way you could use edifying.

Don't just restrict yourself to looking for individual synonyms. You need to think in a broader way. Consider "activities ... should have an educational value", "activities ... should teach them something" or even "kids should be able to learn from ... activities", for example.
