When you offer someone a cake or a chocolate, what do you say? "Please" or "help yourself"? Are there words which are more suitable?

no, it's just a phrase , and since you give it such a lot of thought

you must be a genererous person;-)

still,as soon as you realize that there are several biscuits/toffees left
you could always say "why don't you have another one ?" :-D

I was thinking about an official situation.:lol:
"Please" with some elements of courtesy.

what about
"Would you care for some nibbles[things like nuts, crisps, etc before a meal]..?"
or
"Help yourself to ... , please"
if you want to offer sg to drink
"Can I pour you some juice? Say when."[tell me when I have served enough]
I found these quite helpful
