Does "much" in "take much more" have the nuance of emphsizing comparatives?

10p)"It
has been raining hard for three days."
I hope it stops soon," Grandma said.
"I don't know if the Acorn River can take much more." She looked worried Most of the time, the Acorn River was a nice, slow river, but now it was full and fast. Still the rain was falling.

Yes – 'much' emphasises 'more'. It means the river would break its banks if the rain didn't stop soon.

There should be a full stop after 'worried'.
