I haven been teaching english for over two years now, but there was no progress signficantly. I teach english at the english course in town and my student mostly coming from senior high school around 15 to 17 years old in age, most of them are female and real hard to speak up in the class during in the class they prefer silent and waiting for the teacher and listening what the teacher say. Very often when I ask the student to tell everything they know, everything they see long before start the class or to start the class, they mind to do such a thing I ask for, and the class becoming quite and I have to icebreaking the class. I just wonder, why this coud happen?

Is anyone knows the tips and trick to solve my problem?

If the problems is speaking in front of the whole class, why not divide them into smaller groups where they might feel more relaxed?
