Well, a teacher can fall in love with his student. What's wrong with that. Come on :)

It's taboo. In most, if not all cultures, taboo words are rarely spoken if spoken at all, so I can see why there are no terms, not even one, equivalent to 'teacher-student love affairs'.

I suppose one could say there is nothing "wrong" with that. The wrong is in acting on such feelings. In almost all cases the teacher is the one with the authority and prestige. The teacher is taking advantage of an unequal relationship. One can argue that the student can benefit from such a relationship (in the same way a student can benefit from cheating on a test), but at the very least it is unfair to all the other students.

(My two cents.)

It depends very much on the age. There are also ethical questions if the teacher is also grading the students. There are cases where sexual favours have been asked for or offered for results.

The term you are looking for is "didactolagnia," from Greek words didaktos, "taught" (from didaskein, teach) and lagneia, "lust."

Cf. matrolagnia, incestous desire for mother; for a father, patrolagnia; for a daughter, thygatrilagnia, etc.

There is nearly always an image created of the '30 something ravishingly handsome teacher' and 15/16 year old smitten student with the ensuing tragic and destructive outcome for both. However, with the huge changes we now see in worldwide teaching and the surge in those returning to adult learning e.g. a teacher having a class of 25-40 year old adults for example, I see nothing wrong with it.

The stuff in regard to cheating and favours of a certain kind I see as totally separate moral and/or ethical issues entirely. 8)

I teach adults and I've had relationships with students. I don't mark their exams, so there haven't been any issues to worry me. ;-)
