Hello,
I'm looking for TEFL jobs in the Andes, Ural and Himalayan mountain regions. Also intested in Mongolia, Pakistan, Afghanistan (yes, I realize there's a war on), and Kyrzgstan. Primarily to help off set the cost of traveling to these regions to climb and trek.
I'm fluent in English and German and have a working knowledge of Spanish, Tibetan, Nepali, Russian and Mandarin Chinese. Prior teaching experience is limited to private tutoring of English in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. I was born in Germany and immigrated to the USA at 15 years of age. I learned to speak English when I was 10 and now have 16 years experience with the language. So I have a unique perspective on learning English as a second language which may help me teach. My English is clean without a heavy German accent.
Climbing experience includes extensive climping in the Alps, all of Colorado's fourteeners, Mt. Rainier, and Denali. Highly experienced in both technical rock climbing, high altitude mountaineering, and trekking.
Currently no TEFL certificate. Would be open to completing one in a region I would care to travel to. No college degree, highest level of education I have is a GED from Florida USA. Currently have a US passport and am a naturalized citizen of the US.
Would prefer to deal with an agency and recieve assignments that way with a written contract. Desire to spend a minimum of 1 year in each location and work less than 35 hours a week. Accomodations arranged and paid for by the school would be a plus as would paid airfare. Traveling with several hundred pounds of specialized climbing gear will be expensive enough. Schools with two teaching posts available so my climbing partner can travel with me would be a plus. My climbing partner is American and speaks no other languages.
Any information that can be shared would be appreciated.
I have limited access to a computer and it may be several days before I check back in here.
