Hi!

I've recently encounted the phrase "ten thousand block" in the "Sunset Boulevard" movie:

A murder has been reported from one of those great big houses... in the ten thousand block.

What does it mean?

Thank you!

A block starts at one street and ends at another street. Think of an Excel spreadsheet. Each line would represent a street and the along this line (or street) are homes, businesses, or factories. In the US there are about 20 blocks in a mile. Addresses are numbered, so an address on a certain block might be 1505 Smith Street. This address would be on the 1500 block of Smith Steet. The "ten thousand block" by itself isn't enough information, there must also be a street name.
