Why we cannot delete that in this sentence?

Why can't we [STRIKE]cannot[/STRIKE] delete "that" in this sentence?
We can. Who told you (that) we can't?

You can. In fact, the sentence is more natural without it.

Always mark text you're discussing by setting it in italics or surrounding it with quotation marks.

Always invert the subject and the verb when forming questions.
