Hello everyone,

I have a little question. Is the adjective of polite

1. politely
2. politly

I would say, it is the second one, but my books' answer it is politely.

Kind regards,
Dany :D

As far as I know, the first is correct and does look correct to me. Why do you think it looks better without the 'e' ?

Because the "e" would not speak. And when the "e" is a soundless one, it would be not use by "ly", is it?

1- Polite is an adjective. The adverb form is politely.

2 - It is perfectly possible to add ly after a silent e. See other examples.

sincere - sincerely
mere - merely
bare - barely
nice - nicely
trite - tritely

As far as I know, e is dropped when I deal with the progressive tense. I don't omit e at the end of an adjective to form its adverb.

I am typeing. :(

Is every "e" pronounceable in Deutsch? So I guess you might have to manipulate language codes sometimes. 8) :D
