Hello teachers

I have created this thread because I'd like some advices from you. Well, the bottom line is that I've been studying English for 6 years, however, only the last two did worth the time.
I've been watching native speakers (actually their accents) from many english-speaking countries, I found the accents pretty different from each other. British English is more polite, corrected, ruled, besides, American English is more spontaneous, maybe more easy (US have influenced many countries in Latin America, that's way). Africans speak an awkward English, when people from India speak, it is really difficult to understand what they said, of course, in my opinion.
So, all in all, what'd be the advice that you teachers could give in this case?
What would be the best way of learning a language like English for a self-learner? What are the most important tips that a student should know?

I think you have a grasp of the basics. You seem eager to improve your English. Learn to diagram sentences and that will help you. Good luck and keep posting on this site :lol:

Thanks for proofreading, Susie. Actually I didn't know how bad my writing/spelling is. But it's OK.

(...) What did you mean by 'learn to diagram sentences' ? Is it grammar? I hope not, cause I really don't like grammar. At this time I am worried about how to understand what people (from anywhere) say.

The problem is:

I can understand what Americans say but not their writing.
I can't understand what Brits say but their writing.

"Parse" in another term. Yes, it involves grammar.

If you can tear apart the sentence and see its structure and analyze it, you will understand English better. Consider it as working a puzzle.

About the British accent? Can't help you with that. I have difficulty, too. The best I can do is to ask people to "Please slow down your speech."
