The bus driver drove at full speed

I am wondering if my sentences are grammatically correct.

The bus driver drove at full speed, as if he wanted to commit suicide. The bus swung from side to side on bends, causing panic among passengers. Their cries mixed with the screeching of the brakes and the driver's ecstatic screams. They begged him to stop, but he ignored them, pressing the accelerator to the floor, his wide opened eyes staring at the narrow road leading to death.

Wide-open. It's a compound adjective which should be hyphenated.

The driver's eyes were wide open. The driver had wide-open​ eyes.
