I am wondering if my sentence is grammatically correct.

The construction of a new bridge over the Themes has been completely abandoned because of the lack of funds.

Almost.

1. 'Lack of funds' is first mentioned here, so an indefinite article is required.
2. Construction is uncountable, so we don't need an article.
3. I assume you are writing about the Thames river in England.
4. Due to and owing to are possible substitutes for because of. The change is not required, but recommended.

Construction of a new bridge over the Thames has been completely abandoned due to a lack of funds.

Just to note - it's never called "the Thames river" in the UK. It's always "the River Thames" or just "the Thames".
