I am wondering if it is correct to write the following:
1. The feeling of great sadness prevailed within him.
2. Animosity has started to prevail in the country, bringing it on the verge of war.
3. He sat down, calmness prevailing within him.

None of the sentences is natural.

5jj,
Thank you for your answer.
I am wondering about in which context one could use "prevail within" when one is writing about human beings. Is it grammatically wrong to write that some feeling can prevail within a human being?
