Hi,

I don't know if 'be able to' is an adjective or 'able to'.

1. The goal of this lesson is to make them able to solve some basic algebraic formulas.

2. The goal of this lesson is to make them be able to solve some basic algebraic formulas.

The adjective here is able.

The sentence would sound better if you rephrased it. For example:

The goal of this lesson is to improve their ability to solve basic algebraic equations.
