I am wondering if my sentence sounds natural.

The hamlet consisted of one dusty street, a white painted church with a wooden belfry, and a dozen of houses of red brick.

See above. I'd end with "red brick houses".

We say "dozens of [plural noun]" but just "a dozen [plural noun]".
