I am wondering if my sentence sounds natural.

The main casualties of the budget cuts are the people on benefits, jobless, disabled and single parents.

The list's structure doesn't work. I'd leave "people on benefits" till the end because it's the longest phrase. Write "The main casualties of the budget cuts are the jobless, the disabled, single parents, and people on welfare ('benefits' in BrE)."

"Jobless" and "disabled" need definite articles because we're converting adjectives into nouns. I'm sure there's a grammatical principle at work, but I don't know its name.

Are the parents single or are the parents disabled and jobless as well?

"on benefits" is so broad and includes all the other categories.
