The male parakeet is veritable rainbow of colors.

Shouldn't this sentence be 'The male parakeet is veritable rainbow colors', without 'of'.

Shouldn't this sentence be 'The male parakeet is veritable rainbow colors', without 'of'?

The "of" is required but the indefinite article is missing before "veritable". "Rainbow" is a noun in that sentence.
