Would you please correct the mistakes in my sentences?

The mother admonished her children for throwing stones at the passing train. "Imagine if you were on that train, and the stone flew through the window," she said.

The comma isn't necessary.

In the "old days" when a conjunction joined two independent clauses, the comma was needed (by prescriptionists).
I agree it's not necessary, but it is certainly not wrong.
