I would use:

- I read the old book by Rowling.
- I read Rowling's old book.

Your first sentence is quite unnatural. Out of curiosity, which Rowling are you talking about?

It wasn't Rowling who wrote Harry Potter :) Just an example which came to my mind out of the blue :)
