Hi,

Are these sentence correct?

The older the people get, the more tendency to live alone is.
The older people get, the less healthy they get.

Thanks.

#1 is ungrammatical; #2 is OK.

I made some changes:

The older the people get, the more tendency they have to live alone.

It's still not natural.

The older people get, the more likely they are to live alone.
The older people are, the more likely they are to live alone.
The older someone is, the more likely they are to live alone.

The last one might seem odd because it uses "is" in the first half and "are" in the second. The use of the gender-unspecific "they" negates the need for "he/she is" but it does require the third person plural form of "be".

The following was what my teacher said at the class:

The older the people get, the more tendency to live alone is.

Would I be right in thinking that your teacher is not a native English speaker?

Definitely.
We, as English learners, have never had any native English teachers. In Iran, it is almost impossible to be taught by such teachers in any English language schools. You might be surprised to hear that IELTS examiners in Iran are not native. They are all Iranian.
