I am wondering if my sentence is grammatically correct.

The pale light of the dawn had been creeping on the horizon.

We normally say 'The pale light of [STRIKE]the[/STRIKE] dawn' and 'creeping over the horizon'.

The past perfect is incorrect in a stand-alone simple sentence.
