I am wondering if my sentence sounds natural.

The prime minister opened his speech with some self-deprecating remarks which drew laughs and applause from the audience.

The noun is applause. Correct that and the sentence will be natural.

See above.

"Applauds" is the third person singular form of the verb "to applaud". "Applause" is the associated noun.
