I have tried to use "the rank and file" in my sentence. Would you please correct my mistakes?

Despite the voices from the rank and file that the prime minister should show more feelings, she seems not to have heard the message and continues behaving like a cold, distant bureaucrat.

That part doesn't work.
Also, use "feeling", not "feelings."

Could I use "calls" instead and write like this:

Despite the calls from the rank and file that the prime minister should show more feeling...

That's much better. If this is the first mention of "calls" drop the preceding "the".
