Are my sentences grammatically correct?

The taxi Peter was sitting in suddenly braked, jolting him out of his thoughts. "An idiot with an iPhone crossing the street without looking up", the driver said and wiped the sweat off his forehead.

Yes.

I'm an American, so I'd put the comma before the quotation mark. But after is right in British English.

Bassim, I would say he was riding in the taxi, not sitting in it.
