I am wondering if my sentences are grammatically correct.

The thug hit the publican a couple of times on the head with a baseball bat, which just bounced off without causing him any harm. Then the publican shot his right fist into the thug's chin, sending him flying to the floor.

I would say "but the publican wasn't injured" instead of "which just bounced off without causing him any harm."

teechar,
Thank you for your correction. I used "bounce off" to describe how strong the publican was. I think that it if I wrote "but the publican wasn't injured", my sentence would not describe the publican's strength. But if I wrote that the bat bounced off his head, the reader gets the exact picture of the incident.

Would the following sentence be correct, without using "without causing him any harm"?

The thug hit the publican a couple of times on the head with a baseball bat, which just bounced off him.

Do people really have heads so hard that being hit twice with a baseball bat has no effect at all? That seems really unlikely.

It is not unlikely. If a man who is 165cm and weights 60 kg hits a person who is 190cm and weighs 120kg he can't hit him hard enough to hurt him, even if he wants. I have seen people in a prison camp being hit dozens of times by a prison guard in all parts of their bodies and they still stand. Why do you think boxers spend hours and hours sparring? It is one thing to hit someone who had never before boxed or was involved in a fight, and a completely different thing to pick up a fight with a former boxer or someone who is used to fight. In a film, even a little girl can knock a burly man, but a in a real fight, she would certainly end up in hospital, simply because her little body can't produce so much power to knock a strong person.

Hey Bassim, did you write these sentences or did you find them somewhere?

Unless the baseball bat is made of rubber, your sentence just doesn't work.

Maybe he didn't hit him very hard, but then he wouldn't be a true thug.

Perhaps, the thug just tapped the man with a baseball bat. That would make perfect sense.

I have been asking a simple question about a sentence and not an explanation about a quality of a baseball bat. I understand from your post that you have never been in a real fight, nor did you train martial arts. Otherwise, you would not describe something about which you seem to know nothing. To pontificate on something about which you do not know much is so wrong. There is another life outside academia. In my sentence, there is no physical description of neither men, so if a little man, no matter how strong he is strikes another person who is burly and well-trained the effect of his blow will be insignificant. Regarding the bats the prison guards used in the prison camp in which I was detain, you can go on the internet and look up the words "Omarska prison camp" or "Keraterm prison camp."
